Oh, how having a child changes things. Gabe has known this for a while, and now Matt gets to dive into the abyss of parenthood! I had just put Savannah to bed, and decided to eat and do a little blogging, when i realized that a couple things about this scene look much different than they did about a year and a half ago. For one, notice the elegant plates--yes, that's a blazing pink, plastic, compartmentalized kid's plate that I'm eating off of. I am not eating off of it because I've suddenly taken a liking to the pink parade that having a little girl has turned my house into. But, rather, Savannah ate from this plate tonight, and I didn't want to dirty another one for me to have to clean up. Ha, I'm so lazy. And then, note that there's nobody else eating with me in the picture--that's because Tarah is off at a Christmas party and left me to fly solo with the little one tonight. While we do try to keep our lives as normal as possible and make Savannah adjust to our schedule usually, there are only so many late night Christmas parties that the poor little girl can endure. So I am at home, and alone now that Savannah is in bed.
It may sound like I'm fretting a little bit about some downsides of having a little tike, BUT...what I'm actually trying to get at is that these kind of nights are actually some of my very most favorite. And I truly love the way my life is so radically different now. I just laugh about how often I now eat off little pink plates and suck down left over, luke warm apple juice from sippy cups. I laugh because of the joy that Savannah is to have around. I totally love my one on one time with my little girl. Savannah has begun many new tricks recently--namely squatting and the ability to "dance" with her baby dolls anytime music is turned on (her "dancing" is turning in circles with the doll until she gets so dizzy that she falls over). Tonight, she had another first, though. Tonight, she got to play in her first fort. I don't know the girly name for it, since I'm only used to the way us boys did it as kids. I know it isn't much, but a girl's gotta start somewhere. She was a little hesitant at first, but she quickly caught on to the joy of "Fort Landes". And I'm sure she'll enjoy the challenge of building on in the future!

Very Cool Dad! It's amazing how fast they grow up. I am enjoying seeing Sarabeth do new things everyday and I think about the days when she will be big enough to enjoy Fort Landes too!
